Come join in the fun at the Good Hope Gardens Nursery in the Veld and Sea classroom. We offer an array of different foraging courses depending on the season and what’s available but the standard process is, you’ll learn about loads of edible indigenous plants, you’ll go out, find them in nature and pick them, and then you’ll create a delicious feast and eat them.

We offer

Fynbos Walks

Take a guided walk through the fynbos that grows locally on the mountain above the nursery and learn about the different Fynbos species.

Coastal Foraging

Our fascination for this amazing super food has led to many rock pool forays and lots of delicious (and weird until I got it right) dinners for friends and family. There has been a lot of interest in what one can use and how to cook with it, so we decided to add it to our foraging courses to share the wonders of our local nutrient packed yet vastly underutilized sea vegetables (and mussels…who can resist mussels in a creamy, garlic white wine sauce!) how to harvest sustainably (there are 12 rules in the written notes you receive!) how to prepare a few favourite dishes and of course – of course! A feast at the end.

Bookings

This half day course starts at low tide on Scarborough beach. When we have finished foraging, we go and prepare the meal together. Its is run by Roushanna and Gael Gray on weekends and can accommodate 12 people. A minimum group of 8 is required.

Fynbos Foraging Course For Adults

Each course is different according to seasonality and availability in the gardens and the bush. Explore our gardens, discover and pick indigenous edibles, organic veggies, floral foods, wild herbs and weeds. Learn about edible indigenous plants, and how to utilize them in your kitchen, how to grow them in your garden and their medicinal properties. After the snacks and tour we will get creative and prepare and share a meal.

Fynbos Foraging Course for Children

In the school holidays we have lovely kids forage mornings – focusing on edible flowers and wild herbs which we collect from the gardens and use to make and eat in scones or pizza with fynbos iced tea. And of course, they get to meet all the farm animals, play in our playground and draw beautiful nature drawings.

Kids + baskets + edible flowers & wild herbs + farm animals + an awesome playground + baking + paper + crayons = A bunch of happy kids, floral & wild herb scones with lashings of jam and cream, fynbos iced tea, art, shrieks of laughter, new friends, plant knowledge, full tummies and
a Wild Fun Time!
